2019: betting on a material nobody used for cutting boards

When we prepared our first product photography in February 2019, TPU — thermoplastic polyurethane, an abrasion-resistant elastomer used in medical devices and baby products — was not a cutting board material. Boards were wood, bamboo, glass or rigid plastic. We bet that TPU's combination of knife-friendliness, flexibility and dishwasher resilience belonged in the kitchen, and launched the first IMEKO TPU boards on Amazon that year.

The IMEKO years: a full line, and a lesson

2019 — launch. First IMEKO TPU cutting boards go live on Amazon US: Mini (11″), Medium (13.7″), Large (15.7″), in a palette of colors. By July 2019 we were placing our fifth production run — a thousand-set order shipping straight to Amazon's Pennsylvania warehouse. Several of those original listings are still live today.
2020 — the brand becomes official. IMEKO is registered as a trademark at the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK00918259316, Class 21 — “Cutting boards for the kitchen”), valid through 2030.

Instead of stretching the old product, we rebuilt it.
